Poughkeepsie to Catskill

Yesterday we left Peepskill in the fog and motored north past Big Bear Mt. and under the Bear Mt. bridge that carries vehicles and also hikers on the Appalachian Trail. The fog quickly cleared to a partly sunny day. Later in the morning we passed West Point, which was in a beautiful area (actually the entire river is beautiful!) -- we would have liked to have stopped to tour West Point, but there was no docking available.
We arrived in Poughkeepsie -- a few miles north --at the Poughkeepsie Yacht Club Marina in mid-afternoon. Kathy and I called a taxi which took us to the Vanderbilt Mansion for a tour -- very enjoyable.
This morning the four of us took a taxi to the FDR home (Hyde Park). I have read about this site for so many years, and thoroughly enjoyed touring the home and grounds. Now I have to go back and re-read the biographies of FDR & Eleanor. Unfortunately we did not have enough time to go into the FDR library.
We departed late in the morning under sunny skies, and had a lovely cruise north on the Hudson with the Catskill Mountains on our left (East). We admired many georgeous homes high on the cliffs overlooking the river.
We arrived late afternoon at Catskill, a few miles south of Albany, where we will have our mast "stepped" for the trip through the Erie Canal. Because of the many bridges, all sailboats are required to have their masts taken down.
It is 90 degrees here, so we are making use of our air conditioning. Tomorrow we make the boat ready for the mast and also relax. Dinner out tonight.
